The United States Catholic Bishops' statement Faithful Citizenship identifies 7 themes of Catholic social teaching and explains:

These themes from Catholic social teaching provide a moral framework that does not easily fit ideologies of “right” or “left,” “liberal” or “conservative,” or the platform of any political party. They are not partisan or sectarian, but reflect fundamental ethical principles that are common to all people. (55)

In this section we have provided you with excerpts from each of those themes and the major issues that in our estimation best fit with each theme (although many issues easily fall into several themes). We also provide websites, podcasts, videos, and documents to "dig deeper " into  the themes and issues. We strongly encourage you to prayerfully read the entire Faithful Citizenship statement from the United States Bishops as you prepare yourselves for upcoming elections and continued participation in the public square.

If you would like to learn more about the documents that make up Catholic Social Teaching at your own pace, we highly recommend the Archdiocese of St. Paul-  Minneapolis Catholic Social Teaching website. (Their 25 Questions page is a great resource if you are just beginning to learn about this great tradition of the Church!)
